Cut by machine process. Folded and finished by hand.

I promise this design complies with the usual terms and conditions: it was made from one, single playing card, purely by slitting and folding, without glue or adhesive of any kind. Nothing has been cut and glued back together.
This is my pride and joy. Of all the designs on this site, this is the one that I am most pleased with.
I had the basic idea for the design not long after I had started making these kinds of cards. However, translating the idea into a practical design proved fiendishly difficult. All in all, I worked on this design for about ten weeks before I finally got it to come out right. There were many frustrations, false starts and dead ends involved. I remember it was about 3am one night when I finally produced the first, finished version of the 'Portal' design. It was a very gratifying moment, to say the least.
The folding procedure to arrive at this finished result involves several stages and is very challenging. Even today, I sometimes get it wrong and have to start again!
I have shown the Portal card to many people over the years. Many seem to think it's impossible to have folded this from one card, under the stated conditions. Others have a vague idea how it might be done, but don't get much further than that. I've probably only met one or two who could, if they wanted, replicate it. This is fiendishly hard design to produce!
